The focus of Performing Arts at Kingswood is for students to develop a love of performing whilst learning skills and concepts in the areas of: Music, Singing, Dance and Drama. The program has a strong emphasis on student engagement through activities and games.
In Music students learn about concepts such as rhythm and melody. They play rhythms on a variety of non-tuned percussion instruments and melodies on tuned percussion instruments such as glockenspiels.
Singing underpins the music component and features strongly in our annual school concert. Kingswood has a Junior Choir for students in Years Prep – 2 and a Senior Choir for students in Years 3 – 6. Students perform at school assemblies and community events.
Movement and Dance are also linked to our school concert. Students experience a diverse range of dance styles and learn specific choreography for our productions.
In Drama, students explore mime, role plays, puppetry, Reader’s Theatre and improvisation.
Performing Arts also provides opportunities for students to use and develop their understanding of the Habits of Mind as they learn to create, communicate, and collaborate.
